Senior Scientist for Sustainable Product Development

We are looking for a passionate Senior Scientist with interest in bringing improved products to the market, helping us to move the boundaries of fuel efficiency solutions for the marine industry with a strong focus on reducing the impact on the environment.

Since 1915, Hempel has helped our customers protect their hull against fouling, thereby keeping the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions low. We need you to help us further support our customers in diminishing their impact on the environment.

Senior Scientist for Product Development with passion about sustainabilityIn this role, you will be responsible for the development of new coatings and products for the marine industry from the lab and all the way into the market. You will be working both in the lab, by planning, developing and testing different prototypes, and in the office, engaging with internal and external customers to bring the project to a successful end.

Some of the key tasks that you will have in this position include:

• Independently plan and complete projects to develop new coating prototypes that can solve our customers’ problems with focus on sustainability
• Plan and conduct laboratory experiments with small coating prototypes based on well-known as well as new chemistries, and analyse and interpret the results
• Manage the technical aspects of development projects and be responsible for specific project deliverables
• Actively engage and align with other Hempel colleagues and customers to ensure optimal development of the new products.
• Estimate the costs, resources and time required to conduct research projects

What we are looking for
For the position as Senior Scientist for Sustainable Product Development, we seek a candidate with the following competences:

• University degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar. Background on organic chemistry, polymers or coatings would be a strong advantage
• 3+ years Industrial experience from the coatings field or similar would be a strong advantage
• Proven experience and interest in Project Management and R&D would be an advantage
• Structured, can-do attitude and networking skills
• Strong passion about sustainability and innovation
• Experience with silicone chemistry would be an advantage
• Hand-on approach and willingness to work in the lab

We strive everyday to develop the best solutions in the market for our customers in an efficient and sustainable manner, so you will have a key role in expanding our competences and capabilities within this field.
