Lab Manager in IxD Lab and DesignLab

The IT University of Copenhagen seeks a full-time Lab Manager to the IxD lab and the DesignLab.

Job description
The Lab Manager will be taking on the administrative and daily management of the IxD Lab and the DesignLab (henceforth the IxD lab). In collaboration with the academic management of the IxD Lab, the Lab Manager will propose the strategy for the two labs concerning, focus, services offered, student-facing activities, equipment and workshop facilities etc.

The Lab Manager will be responsible for supporting research projects which rely on the IxD lab. This may also include independently acquiring expertise beyond general fabrication and electronics so as to provide the necessary support.

The Lab Manager is responsible for developing the DesignLab as an updated teaching facility for design activities. This includes organizing workshops aimed at teaching specific skills, materials, or technologies preparing the students for their constructive project or exam work and provide technical support to students such as embedded coding, electronics, fabrication etc. The Lab Manager will also be the administrative contact point for the student Super-user group and general day-to-day lab enquiries.

The Lab Manager is further responsible for the maintenance and upgrading of machinery and lab facilities, including the website. The Lab Manager is also expected to work with academic staff regarding budget management and acquisitions for teaching and research. Finally, the Lab Manager is responsible for ensuring IxD labs collaboration with the other design-oriented labs at ITU as well as the ITU Lab council.

The IxD Lab
The IxD Lab is a place where we build ideas. It is a space for working with research questions that demands physical explorations into new forms of interaction and into new material and computational expressions.

DesignLab is a prototyping space, where students can work with interaction design related projects and learning activities, exploring a wide variety of material, digital and conceptual aspects of interaction design.

We expect the applicant to have competencies in general electronics, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, JS, Processing and the like. We further expect you to have extensive experience with using and maintaining a laser-cutter, CNC mill, and 3D printers.

A successful applicant is pedagogical and ready to communicate clearly with a wide range of personalities. She/he is further capable of independently organizing and conducting workshops. Previous teaching experiences will be an advantage

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
