The IT University of Copenhagen is seeking a Head of Department for its Business IT Department.

The IT University has a multidisciplinary research environment with faculty, centers, groups, projects, and Ph.D. students from many different IT research areas. All faculty members belong to one of three Departments: Business IT Department, Computer Science Department, or Digital Design Department. Please consult en.itu.dk/ for more information.

The Business IT Department contains almost 80 staff, hereof more than 25 assistant, associate, and full professors, almost 20 Ph.D. students, around 20 part-time lecturers, and a number of postdocs, research assistants and student workers.

The department consists of two larger research groups: Technology, Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship (TIME) and Technologies in Practice (TiP). TIME is doing research on the digitalization and the future of organizations in networked economies. The group is focused on governance and management of technology, processes and tools for innovation, and technology use and development. TiP is doing research on qualitative studies of technologically mediated practices in organizations and everyday life. The group is inspired in particular by the research traditions of STS (science and technology studies).

The Business IT Department is in charge of the BSc study program Global Business Informatics, the MSc study program Digital Innovation and Management, and the professional Master in IT Management. More than 200 students are enrolled annually in the three study programmes.

The Head of the Business IT Department is part of the management of the IT University and expected to contribute to fulfilling the mission of the university as well as implementing its strategy. The Head of the Business IT Department will refer to the Vice-Chancellor.

The Head of the Business IT Department will have the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Responsibility of achieving the department's targets concerning volume and quality of teaching, publications, and external research funding
  • Personnel management
  • Recruitment and retention of excellent faculty
  • Resource management to ensure the best possible education and research,
  • Change management in connection with the development of the department
  • Leadership of the department’s development of educations
  • Leadership of the department’s research, to ensure outstanding quality and secure external funding

The Head of the Business IT Department must lead the development of the department, exploiting also the possibilities for interaction and collaboration with external partners. Internal cooperation with other department heads is a central part of the job. The Head of the Business IT Department will have budget responsibility for the department, in 2017 amounting to 24.5 MDKK.

The successful candidates for the position must have academic qualifications at the associate or full professor level and must have:

  • Experience with personnel and research management
  • A visionary approach to both research and education
  • The ability to translate visions into well-designed processes of change involving faculty
  • Ability to motivate and inspire faculty through engagement and effective communication
  • Commitment to ensuring sound finances and efficient use of resources
  • An international orientation
  • A strong capability to collaborate

Terms of employment
The position will be filled primo 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a six-year, fixed-term position with the possibility of extension. The extension may be negotiated as a return to a permanent faculty position with normal teaching and research responsibilities after the fixed termed position as Head of Department has expired. Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associates (AC), including the entries related to deans and heads of department. The IT University is prepared to negotiate an allowance in addition to the basic salary based on qualifications and job requirements. For applicants who do not currently hold a position as an associate or full professor (and who have not previously been evaluated for such a position), the formal evaluation procedures for such a qualification will apply.
